This project started with a conceptual gesture where I spent a seven hour work day attempting to track my emotions while listening to music using a corporate time-tracking software called Everhour. I was considering the alienation of labor, the integration of digital space into our working lives and how corporate spaces may extend into private residences/domestic spaces, and the capitalist ideology of “using” time as a quantitative tool to measure productivity. As of 2021, there are a number of surveillance softwares for employee “time tracking.” The impossibility of this task spoke to the absurdity of tracking and valuing our lives this way.
